BLOG2: My favorite cover

Harper's Bazaar, March 2012: "Gwyneth Revealed"

This photo is my favorite because automatically you can tell its a fashion magazine just based on the women's appearance and as usual in any high end clothing articles the awkward model stance. The simplicity of the background being white really made the black cover lines and even her dress and hair pop!
52 words.

Part 2:Your favorites

1. What was the best song of 2013?
i chose Drake, hold on were going home, as my main choice because its the only song that stuck in my head. What attracted me to this song as my choice is the singer/rapper Drake. It was the best of 2013 because it was repeatedly played and even my parents new the lyrics.

2. What was the best movie of 2013?
  COMEDY:the heat
  SCARY:the conjuring
  ACTION:world war z
i chose these 3 as the best movies for their specific catagoriez as my main choices because they left me in awe shock. The actors in the movie and movie trailors attracted me overall. And they were the best of 2013 because of the constant laughter, hiding under my blanket, screaming, and lastley keeping me on my feet and intense feelings i had in these movies.

3. What was the most important news story of the year?
i chose the Boston marathon bombing as my main choice because it was all over in magazines and on tv. The fact that people had been harmed not really attracted me but caught my attention. It was the best of 2013 because it was the worst thing that has happened in a very long time.

4. Who was the most important person of 2013?
I chose pope Francis as my main choice because he was the big talk of the year. The things that attracted me is how different and modern he was compared to all the past popes and makes you look at things in different ways. He was the best of 2013 because he was holy and generous and caring just in a different way.

5. What was the biggest sports OR entertainment story/person of 2013?
sports is central Florida vs temple jj worton's one handed touchdown and entertainment is duck dynasty crew. i chose these as the biggest sports story and entertainment persons because they are iconic people now known for their amazing talents. The outstanding performance of jj and the hilarious reality stars that are honest, open, and everyday people is what attracted me overall. They where the best sports and entrainment people and stories of 2013 because they are both accomplished amazing things in the year 2013.

BLOG1: Magazine essential parts

  • selling line: the short "definition" of the magazine, what kind of magazine it is and overall topics or things like "fame, glamour, scandal" or "home decor, outside gardening, and diy projects"
  • bar code: the thin used by retailers used to purchase the magazine, some big name magazines omit the use of one though.
  • left third: it is imprortant in stores where the magazine isn't completely shown.
  • masthead: the brand of the magazine like "vogue" or "women's health" and things that are familiar, and never change from the magazine.
  • dateline: the month and year that the magazine was published, or like the month the magazine is covering
  • main image: its the eye catcher and the main, big, image on the front page, the "cover model" or photo.
  • model credit: not always on the cover, but does appear, the models or main image's name.
  • cover lines: the titles of the main stories in the magazine that are like eye catchers that make you want to buy the magazine, like "kardashians split pg.25" or " john doe develops cancer pg. 50".
  • main cover line: is the BIG story of the magazine or the big reason to buy the magazine and has the biggest cover line, taking a majority of the magazine, differs colors, and some times even fonts so it really stands out, and is best not to contrast with the image in the background.

Part 1: best photos of 2013

This photo is one of my favorites from 2013. It is my favorite because of the little boys happiness even though it is raining. Also because it has a sense of humor of attempting to use the leaf to cover his and his friend from the rain.

This photo is my second favorite of 2013. This is one of my favorties because it shows how life isnt always about being uptight and in schedual everyday. It also shows our ridiculous but fun holidays that we create and continue to enjoy.

This is my third favorite photo of 2013. This is my third favorite because it shows the things we will do to bring a smile to a childs face. I also like how the window cleaners showed no embarracment and embraced wearing the costumes.

Aperture, shutter speed, ISO

  F2.8
F16
1. We closely relate aperture to the human eye.

2. The smaller the Aperture The littler the focus, more blur , the higher the Aperture the bigger the
    focus,and more sharp.

3.Aperture controls the Depth of Field by making the background look blurry or sharp

High shutter Speed
Low shutter speed.

1.At the beginning while the sun is still partially up and the courtyard has reasonable light

  • a.) the dunking booth ...FAST
  • b.) the food eating contest...MEDIUM
  • c.) the rock climbing wall....MEDIUM
  • d.) someone working at a booth.....SLOW
  • e.) the DJ/MC working at the middle of the circle...SLOW
  • f.) the Diamonds performance....FAST
Towards the end when there is no sun and it is dark so there is not enough light to see from one end of the courtyard to the other.

  • a.) the dunking booth... MEDIUM
  • b.) the food eating contest MEDIUM
  • c.) the rock climbing wall...MEDIUM
  • d.) someone working at a booth...SLOW
  • e.) the DJ/MC working at the middle of the circle..SLOW
  • f.) the Diamonds performance....MEDIUM
2.Aperture priority- you control the aperture and the shutter sets to fit with your aperture.
Shutter priority- you control the shutter speed.
Manual- everything is set and adjust for you.

ISO 200

ISO 6400

1. What are the advantages of shooting with a higher ISO setting at a sporting event like a night football game? The more light it captures.

2. What suggestions did the author make about using a low ISO? For most places with good lighting stick with the low only rare cases would you use a low ISO in a dark or dim area

3. What suggestions did the author make about using a high ISO?
when their isn't enough light you should always use a high ISO.

  • F4  ...1/125, blurry,
  • F5.6  ...1/60, more blurry,
  • F8 ....1/60 ,......less blurry
  • F11 ....1/60...less focused
  • F16 ....1/30 .....more focused
  • F22.....1/30.... focused

Finally, what is happening to the subject (the people) at SLOW Shutter Speeds? What could the photographer do to help combat this problem? At slow shutter speeds the couple is blurry, to fix this a photographer should change the iso.

What is the lowest Shutter Speed do you think a photographer can hand-hold the camera without a tripod? 1/125
